Latest news
2026-02-20: A new version V02 of the solo_L3_rpw-tnr-surv-flux and solo_L3_rpw-hfr-surv-flux have been released. This version fixes the following issues: Epoch times not well sorted in some solo_L3_rpw-hfr-surv-flux CDF files. Use correct CDF variable attributes for some zVariables.
2026-01-26: Two new RPW L3 TNR-HFR data products, including radio flux density in physical units (e.g., W/m^2/Hz, SFU) were released on January 2026. CDF files are now available from the Solar Orbiter Archive (see solo_L3_rpw-tnr-surv-flux and solo_L3_rpw-hfr-surv-flux).
Daily availability of all in-situ instruments can be found here.
Main on-board activitities related to RPW are reported in the operations calendar.
Known issues with RPW data
- On November 13, 2023 around 23:36z, RPW temporarily lost its capability to measure signals with the antenna 3 (MY). This problem persisted until Feb 27 at 22:40z when the signal was recovered again. After this date, the ANT3 signal was temporarily lost on a few more occasions until mid-March 2024. No new failure has been reported since. This issue had affected some of the RPW science data acquired during this period. Please read CAVEATS and QUALITY_FLAG in CDF or contact the person in charge for more details.
- Issue raised concerning the solo_L1_rpw-hfr-surv and solo_L2_rpw-hfr-surv data time stamping. The Epoch times of the data sample is expected to increase monotonically, which is not always the case. The root cause is known, but not easy to solve. A new version of HFR L1/L2 CDF files will be released as soon as a adequate enough solution will be found.
- Main electromagnetic contaminations (EMC) identified by the RPW Team in science data are reported here.
The science data quality is regularly checked by the RPW team. However, overlooking an issue in the data is still possible. In this case, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Data releases notes
Information about releases notes can be read in the global attribute MODS in the CDF files.
List of major data reprocessings
A major update of the RPW L1, L2 and L3 CDF files was performed on June 2025.
Main changes were:
- Use CDF 3.9 (instead of 3.7 previously)
- CDF GZIP.6 compression applied on all zVariables except Epoch
- CDF files are now fully compliant with Solar Orbiter metadata standards 2.6 (https://s2e2.cosmos.esa.int/confluence/display/SOSP/Metadata+Definition+for+Solar+Orbiter+Science+Data)
- Fix minor remaining inconsistencies in the CDF metadata
- Update content of few data products (see MODS global attributes in the CDF files for details.)
